Before it all begins..

As the conference begins, the committees were in lobbying and merging sessions. Every group was representing its clauses and finding solutions so that each one could write the perfect resolution for the topics. Each country has its own point of view on the problem; however, there are allies that sit together and discuss their ideas, turn them into clauses, and create a resolution that pleases all countries that are co-submitting.

Committees were lobbying and merging about their council’s two topics. Security council, French and English committees were both finding solutions to “the conflict of the South China Sea and the problem of Afghanistan.”

As for the council of Human Rights, French and English, they were both discussing “The role of security infrastructure in countering terrorism and protecting human rights and measures to reinforce the rights of the workers during infrastructure constructions.”

The delegates in the General Assembly were finding solutions to the following topics. The sustainable management of nuclear energy and the increase of the global population and its impact on the resources. Nevertheless, we also witnessed the lobbying and merging of the General Assembly’s plenary session, which includes all the committees in the OISMUN conference except for the ICJ. This year’s topic is “Abolishment of the death penalty”.

As for ECOSOC, this year, the council is experiencing new changes. The council is now divided into two sub-commissions, the first being Status of Women and the second Science and Technology. Sub-commission 1: Status of women was working on resolutions on the topic of Child marriage, and Sub-commission 2: Science and Technology was trying to find solutions to the modernization and development of emerging countries through scientific and technological innovations. Moreover, the two sub-commissions discussed the joint topic, which is “Access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work.”

Lastly, this year’s special conference G20, searching and working on writing resolutions on the following topics, “The fight against Petty corruption in local economic transactions and limiting protectionism in investment and international trade”

To conclude, the delegates were working with enthusiasm and passion, which leaves us with high expectations for tomorrow’s debates. We couldn’t be more excited and we think the delegates are too because this is all they talked about today.
